Curated by Nuno Faria and featuring Fernando Marques Penteado, the exhibition 331 Amoreiras em Metamorfose [331 Mulberries in Metamorphosis] opens on 20th November.
This exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of the Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva Foundation, where the Marquês de Pombal ordered the planting of 331 mulberry trees to feed the silk factory’s transformation and production process.
Inspired by the textile thinking that characterises Vieira da Silva’s work, and takes as its starting point the idea of metamorphosis, solidarity and interdependence between the plant (the mulberry tree), the animal (the silkworm and its pupa) and the human (the weavers), to weave dialogues with the works on display and the physical space.
